The island of Stromboli lives under the constant reminder of change, just about every day one can hear the rumblings of the active volcano on this tiny island. The barren landscape and the low-key atmosphere are a constant reminder of the power of nature. The cemetery with its traditional italian portraits in enamel another reminder of time, those pictures could all be gone themselves if there is a big eruption. An old abandoned cemetery higher up tells of other unknown times.The Mediterranean Sea, always a battleground with nature has become another battlefield since the beginning of the new millenium, albeit a humanitarian one. "Lighthouse of the Mediterranean" as the Island has been known since ancient times watches on, albeit not silently.
